NO MORE AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT FOR FIRST CLASS GRADUATES- OAU VC SAYS.

Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) yesterday posited that the institution would no longer make provision in its employment for any first class graduate from the school again.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the 41st convocation of the institution the Vice-- Chancelor, Professor Tale Omole opined that the space for such was no longer there.

Omole who  linked the main reasons to dwindling economic situation biting badly, said in the past, the authority can absolve one to three first class but today the institution has had increased figures.

He said with 45 first class at this year convocation, it would be hard to accommodate the figure.
Speaking on research, Omole stressed that the university was determined to deepen its research endeavour.

The VC noted that  as a result of university efforts on research,  it has won $8million grant for its Center for Excellent Knowledge last year.

He said the institution also received another  grant of $1.12million from International Development Research Center (IDRC), Canada to advance research on indigenous vegetables.

The VC, however,  disclosed that the university pioneered the research in chemotherapeutic effect of Fagara Xanthzyloides on sickle cell anaemia.
