UNN alumni demand immediate completion of abandoned Zik Mausoleum

The University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch has decried the continued abandonment of Zik's Mausoleum project in Onitsha, Anambra state, describing it as a national shame.

The body called on the federal government to complete the project without further delay, having been abandoned several years after Zik was laid to rest inside the Inosi Onira Retreat.

President of association, Barrister Chris Ajugwe made the call yesterday in Onitsha at the 57th founders' day celebration, awards/workshop and induction of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe (CFR) as its grand patron.

He said it was regrettable that such a laudable project initiated by the federal government during Zik's burial in 1996 was yet to be completed.

On the current agitation for the restoration or actualization of Biafra, the legal practitioner in Onitsha, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to summon the political will and implement the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress, APC with respect to restructuring of the country.

According to him, "A faithful implementation of the recommendation of the National Convention of 2014 will douse the tension in the polity and safeguard our country's unity."
