International Peace Day: UNAN, UNILAG, organise symposium

The United Nations Association Of Nigeria (UNAN) in partnership with the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the University of Lagos organized a symposium to mark the International Peace Day. At Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi yesterday.

The international day of peace this year is focused on engaging and mobilizing people through out the world to show support for refugees and migrants. And about bringing people together reminding them of their common humanity.

Dr Rhoda Asikia Ige spoke on “The Search for Peace in a Divided World: An African Feminist Perspective”, which she clarified an Africa feminist as someone who takes a holistic perspective on issues in the society and sees how it affect the men, children and their neighbor while western feminist takes issues that affect the women alone. So she finally advised women to stand up and sue for peace.

A youth peace builder Victoria Ibiwoye talked on Together for Peace and what it takes to be a peace builder from her own experience she advised the youth not to leave peace for only bigger organizations like UN they should look at their surroundings and start making a change from the little problem they see around them.

You can never make Peace without justice said by Dr. Femi Badejo. He spoke on Together for Peace: A Personal Experience. And he explained further on working together to bring peace in the country saying that outsiders cannot find peace and that peace takes a lot of patience before it can be realized.
