    OAU's INSTITUTE OF ECOLOGY JOINS THE GLOBE IN CELEBRATING WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL DAY!

    World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. The first World Environment Day was in 1973. World Environmental Day is celebrated every year on 5th June in more than 100 countries around the world. In abbreviation it is written as “WED”.

    This history of World Environmental Day is very simple. It was discussed first time in the United Nations General Assembly and it was approved by the United Nations Environmental Program. It was first time established in 1972 by the General Assembly of United Nations Organization. The purpose of celebrating World Environmental Day every year is to show the world the importance of environment and provoke political attention towards it. It points towards the importance of the issues concerned with today’s environmental challenges.

    The organizations create different activities and debates on the importance of environment on every year so that an understanding can be promoted between different communities about the key role of environment in our daily life. To mark the event, the Institute of Ecology will be marching for Environment to sensitize the public.
