The Imo state police command has arrested 31 students suspected of cultism in the state university, Owerri for engaging the police in a gun duel.
According to Andrew Enwerem, the imo state public relations officer, the suspects were apprehended during initiation at Orji Comprehensive secondary school in Owerri north local government area of the state.
The alleged cultists are Okafor Anyanwu, Chimezie Nwanezi, Umeh Chimezie, Obiji Obumneke, Ubani Lawrence, Okpara Chimezie, Amouha Ikenna, Njoku Chidi.
Others are also identified as Ajaegbu Gabriel Golden, Alaforo Walter, Akpasuo Chimereijem, Okpara Jude Chijike, Ukachi Samuel, Christus Okerie, and Gaboh Lucky.
Enwerem noted that the operation was led by the state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike.
He said the suspected cult members would be charged to court at the end of their investigations.
Enwerem said: ''A policeman was shot during the operation.''
