US FIRM PARTNERS UNILORIN ON SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT

A United States of America-based company, Arrow Capital LCC is partnering the University of Ilorin on the establishment of a solar energy project in the university.
The firm plans to spend N600 billion on the generation of 500 megawatts of solar energy.
The company’s chief executive officer, Brian Travis, announced this  in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the management of the University of Ilorin.
Travis said the university was  an ideal location for the solar power project, pointing out that the backbone of the electricity distributions of Nigeria run through this line.
“They run through Egbin thermal power station in Lagos up to Shiroro Dam in Niger State. So it is a great honour and location for us.
“Interestingly, when President Muhammadu Buhari came to the
United States last year, he announced the country’s commitment to solar power and President Barrack Obama of the United States announced that jobs from the solar industry are growing in the country.
He said the project was strictly private sector funded and described it as an absolute demonstration of private sector initiative into Nigeria.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali said the project, when completed, would provide the  4 megawatts of power consumed by the university, while the balance would be  sold to the federal government through a distribution to Lagos and Kano axis.
