Sacked Unilorin Primary School Teachers Cry for Justice

The University of Ilorin early this year sacked 77 staff from the university primary school following a circular by the National University Commission (NUC) which says it could no longer bear their expenses and should be bore by the institution.

Meanwhile some of the affected staff of the school had cried out to the federal government to come to their rescue and correct the injustice melted out to them by the university management.

Although, the University of Ilorin management when contacted insisted that they didn't sack them on their own but followed the circular from the NUC to bore the school expenses by themselves.

According to the Deputy Director of Communication of Unilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun the issue did not affect only Unilorin primary school teachers but all other university primary schools nationwide and has been forgotten.

But the affected staff claimed that it was unfair for the university to have sacked them unjustly as they have served and dedicated themselves to the service of the school for so long and for supporting the institution to have a stable academic programme for many years uninterrupted.

"It is injustice on our part because we were only told on November 11, 2015 of their plan to privatise the school as a result of information they received from the National University Commission (NUC). We were shocked with the information because we were not informed before that time. We suggested to them to give us another alternative by absorbing us into the core university system but rejected outrightly but they continued to call us for different meetings and we were told to re-apply because they want to set up a new board for the school since it has been privatised and we will be working under the new board."
