THE kidnapped lecturer of the University of Abuja, Dr Nurudeen Lawal, has regained freedom from his captives.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Michael Adikwu, who made this known on Friday in Abuja, said the Lawal who was abducted along Abuja-Kaduna road on Wednesday afternoon was released early Friday in good health.

Adikwu, expressed the appreciation of the University to all those who stood by the University and the family during the ordeal.

He thanked God for making it possible for Dr Lawal to leave the kidnappers den unharmed.
Although, the Authorities of the University could not confirm if any ransom was paid before his release, an online medium, Daily Nigerian, reported that Lawal was freed after payment N4million ransom by the family.

The report said Mr Lawal, who was kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna highway, was freed Thursday night after intense negotiation with the family.

“We initially thought they killed him when they switched off the line, following our inability to raise the N10million they demanded.

“As at noon today, we were only able to raise N3million. Later when they switched on the phone and asked him to call his mother to bid her farewell, we used the opportunity to tell them that N4million was raised.

“So they agreed that the money be delivered immediately to a specific location,” the online report stated quoting an unnamed family source.
