The Vice- Chancellor, Federal University of Technology , Minna, Niger State , Prof. Musbau Akanji , on Thursday said 700 students were expelled during the last academic session for poor academic performance.
He added that the university had matriculated 5 ,141 students for the 2016 / 2017 academic session.
In a chat with journalists after the 30 th matriculation ceremony of the university, Akanji said majority of the students were expelled due to low academic performance as they scored below the 1.5 pass mark.
He said the university would reduce the high rate of failures recorded last year, adding that tutorial lecturers from the Postgraduate School would be engaged to assist students.
The vice chancellor, however, advised the matriculated students to be committed to their studies to achieve academic excellence.
